How To Use This List

Give 3x more than you ask. People aren't on social media to be sold things. If you only show up when you have something to promote, you're not giving anyone a reason to follow — or buy.

Video first, everything else second. Short-form video (TikTok, Reels, Shorts) is where new listeners discover artists today. Make quick vertical video your default, and use photos, carousels, and text where they add depth.

Don't be everywhere. Pick one discovery platform — the same vertical clip posts to all three — and one home base where fans go deeper. Start small, stay consistent, then grow.

Hook first. The first 2–3 seconds decide whether anyone stays. Put the payoff, the question, or your boldest line up front — never a slow intro.

Raw beats polished. A one-take phone video with something real in it outperforms a produced promo almost every time. Connection beats perfection.

Consistency beats volume. Three to five sustainable posts a week outperforms a daily sprint that burns you out by March. Use Stories to stay visible between posts.

Replies are content. Video replies to comments regularly outperform normal posts because they feel personal. The more conversation you create, the more the algorithm works for you.

Chase connection, not virality. A hundred true fans beat a viral spike that disappears. Move your real fans somewhere you own — an email list, group chat, or Discord.

The 5 Types of Content

Call to Action — Ask them to watch, listen, buy, pre-save, or come to the show.

Added Value — Share knowledge about your craft. Save-worthy tips travel farther than almost anything else.

Motivational — Make people feel good, with a message in line with your brand.

Personal Connection — Let them inside: your process, backstory, and behind-the-scenes are the most-watched content musicians make.

Engagement — Ask questions, run polls, start conversations — and always respond.
